Truth and lie are two complicated concepts to handle. Sometimes it is better to be truthful, sometimes untruthful. It all depends on the situation.
With the proper judgment, we have to know when to tell the truth, a truth that helps the other individual understand his mistakes and helps him improve himself. Having a truthful attitude with ourselves is also correct and improves us.
But sometimes, we have to lie for the sake of a person. However, we should not lie to appease the other individual or ourselves, but only in cases of extreme necessity.
