Otto von Bismarck Quotes

“The main thing is to make history, not to write it.”

The Otto von Bismarck's quote says that making history is better than writing it.

We must always be aware of the history and past of our world. However, it is much better to be protagonists than side characters.

We can decide how we best want our lives, but living passively and leaving general decisions to others is not advisable.

We often find ourselves suffering consequences from actions that are not our own, which we can change if we want to. We can be much more protagonist and independent, starting from not being the object of someone or below someone.

So the proper attitude to be a protagonist is a rational, calm and individualistic attitude. Of course, we do not neglect trust, friendship, and love, but let's remember that many choices and decisions come from ourselves.

“Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made.”

“There is a Providence that protects idiots, drunkards, children and the United States of America.”

“The great questions of the day will not be settled by means of speeches and majority decisions but by iron and blood.”

“Never believe anything in politics until it has been officially denied.”

“Politics is the art of the possible.”

“With a gentleman I am always a gentleman and a half, and with a fraud I try to be a fraud and a half.”

“When you want to fool the world, tell the truth.”

“The secret of politics? Make a good treaty with Russia.”

“When you say you agree to a thing in principle you mean that you have not the slightest intention of carrying it out in practice.”

“Be polite; write diplomatically; even in a declaration of war one observes the rules of politeness.”
